The unlocked version for the rest of the world ....

Quick Note: The Volks Harajuku location is also very close to the JR train station as well as Laforet Department store/museum (where you can find some very cool clothes including Baby the Stars Shine Bright and H.Naoto). Maybe I'll put something at the end......

Throwing this under a cut so it doesn't bog people's LJs ....

Directions to the SOOM store

Note: Hours 11:00 am to 8 pm. Looks like Thursdays are closed?

Address: 〒150-0001 Tokyo Shibuya Ku Jingumae 3 Chome 25 - 13 large old building 2 floor

Telephone: 03-6459-2144

Here is the link from SOOM: http://soom-japan.com/?mode=f1

1. Take the JR Yamanote line to the 'Harajuku' station and walk out.

If you look behind you, this is what you will see.

2. Walk across the street (with the JR train station at your back). Turn left and walk down the street until you see 'Takeshita Street'. It's not even a blocks walk.

3. Turn right down 'Takeshita Street'. This is what the sign should look like.

I suggest this street as it is really cool to walk down and this is the heart of what most people consider Harajuku. The walk is only about maybe two blocks. You'll pass some really neat shops that sell just about everything mostly really cool clothes and shoes. McDonald's will be on your left side and there are some other food places including some crepe stands (Marion's)! Closet Child is on your left side and is 3 floors of some very cool fashion including Btssb and H.Naoto.

4. This is the first main intersection you will encounter -- Takeshita street or Takeshita-guchi which you just walked down and Meiji dori which is the one in front of you.

If you look up at the traffic light/street post (your left hand side), this is what it should look like:

5. Walk across the street (which is 'Meiji dori') and turn left. Do not continue down Takeshita street. The Birkenstock store should be on your side of the street, on your right side. Walk down the street, about a block.

6. Look for the Secon Building, across the street, on your left hand side. The SOOM store is practically directly across from the Secon Building (the SOOM store will be on your side of the street).

7. This is what you should be looking for. See the SOOM sign on the building?

8. Walk up to the second floor and you are there!

++++

What worked for me:

1) From the JR Train station, find the Volks store in Harajuku. There are some great walking directions on DoA!

2) Backtrack (only a few minutes walk really) until you get to Takeshita Street, follow the directions to go to the SOOM store.

3) After the SOOM store, make your way back to the corner of Takeshita street (or Takeshita-guchi) and Meiji dori. Walk back across Meiji dori (where you originally crossed) and then turn left and walk down Meiji dori just on the opposite side of the street. About a blocks walk down Meiji dori, you're going to see Laforet Department store on your side of the street (there is a huge Gap store on the opposite side of the street on Meiji dori. If you've found yourself at the corner, you've gone too far! (The corner should be Meiji dori and Omote-sando (ave.))

This is what you're looking for :

6 floors up and 2 basement floors, all which are split levels. The very basement has H.Naoto and Baby, the Stars shine bright (I think it is specifically Alice and the Pirates?) plus a small Music shop where I found some cool DVDs and CDs (but region coded to Japan only!).

4) After you're done at the Laforet, turn right as you exit Laforet and find yourself on the corner of Meiji dori and Omote-sando (ave.).

Choose your next adventure .... :

Adventure A: High end shopping:

Want to do some serious shopping? Like Gucchi, Cartier or Louis Vitton (just to name a few)? Then this option is for you! (Actually there is a big shop called Oriental Baazar which has lots of Japanese traditional items including kimonos, crafts and books at decent prices and heck a Shakey's Pizza on this street too! It's an all you can eat pizza place with late 70's or early 80's decor. Good times. :)

For high end shopping, turn left (cross over Meiji dori) and walk down Omote-sando (ave.) for a few blocks. Shop til you drop! @_@

Adventure B: People watching or Meiji Jingu Temple or just want to get back to the JR train station:

Turn right on Omote-sando (ave.). Do not cross the street. Walk down Omote-sando (ave.) about one or two blocks. You'll find a set of metal stairs (aka a walkway) on your side of the street. Walk up it and it will take you to the other side of the street.

If you feel like people watching, stay on top of the walkway and peer down to see the swarms of people over the concrete bridge. I suggest a Sunday as that's when all everyone dresses up in their very unique and cool clothing.

This is what it looks like from the top of the stairs. See the concrete bridge where all the people are standing?

If you look to your right, these are the stairs down that take you back to the JR. Yes ... this was a Sunday. Very crowded!

If you feel like you'd like to see what Tokyo might have been like back for it became a bustling metropolis, then walk down the stairs and walk over the small, concrete bridge (you should be on the opposite side of the bridge now). Veer to your right. You'll find yourself at the entrance to Meiji Jingu (Temple and grounds). It's quite a nice walk to the temple. Quiet, big trees and lots of places to take some nice photos.

Hope these were helpful!

7 Dolls were stolen from the FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) last night.
Here is the thread on DoA --->>>

http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=220740

And the info so far:

These are one-off, unique dolls. They do not have a headplate on the back of the head, they have an artist's signature inside instead.

(1) SD16 Girl "Ruby" w/black swan dress

(2) MSD Girl F-21 Fairy w/blue dress & (3) MSD Boy F-13 Fairy w/blue outfit (2 and 3 have matching outfits and long elf ears)

(4) MSD Girl F-22 Fairy w/yellow dress

(5) SD13 Girl F-29 w/yellow dress (4 and 5 have matched dresses)

(6) SD13 Boy F-31 Fairy w/dark green & red outfit

(7) SD13 Boy "Irvin" (FDQ Limited Model) w/Fairy default dress

I would would love it (as I'm sure Volks and FDQ would appreciate it) if we can spread the word around about this nasty situation. So, please post it on your LJ's, your websites, blogs, yahoo groups, wherever people might read about it....

So this is what I know ....

The morning ran like any other Dolpa Sunday morning, sleepy faces but people anxious to get a chance to purchase the limited items and kimonos (as well as other Japanese seller's merchandise). I accidently slept in this morning (still made it before 10 am but barely) but I got the kimono for Mika and the Elf outfit for Nox which I planned for. I put my ballot in for the YoSD and then like everyone else, started socializing. It was about noon when Mikey started making an announcement. She was very upset but still very composed but there was a definite grief and heavy heart in her voice. She began to talk to us about a very upsetting and unfortunate incident. At first, I think everyone thought that someone had died and immediately the whole room hushed. And then she told us the very disturbing news that 6 Volks dolls were stolen last night (later we would find out that the total was 7). Everyone I think freaked out. Some people gasped and some even started to cry. I think some people were crying not just for the dolls but I think because some people have really gotten to know Mr. Shigeta, Mikey, and everyone at all the Volks stores. It felt like someone not only stole from from Volks but from everyone. It was a really personal blow. And as upset as everyone at Volks was, they really turned it around and came back with a positive attitude. I was really impressed. For those of you who are familiar with Volks and understand their philosophy, this is not really going to come as a surprise. Mikey began to tell us that each doll from Volks has a destiny and when a person adopts a doll from Volks, it is that doll's fate or destiny to be with that person. She continued to say that they feel upset that they do not know where these dolls have gone to but it would seem that they now have a very new destiny. Pat from FDQ also spoke to the group, she was very shaken and very upset about everything. We got to see photos on the big screen of the dolls. People just gasped as each of them were shown and a loud murmur ran through the crowd. Mr. Shigeta came up to the microphone (and through translation) said that he believes that this unfortunate incident has done something good as he believes these 7 dolls have now brought us all together. And Volks said they would like the dolls returned, no accusations. If the dolls are returned, they will all be auctioned off for Make A Wish Foundation. An very nice gesture. Mr. Shigeta also said that Volks will be coming back next year to NY which was met by a very loud cheer and a thunder of clapping.

So yes... very upsetting.... There seems to be a mix of info on what really happened or when. Seems it was after 8:30 when everyone had gone. Apparently, the room was suppose to be Volks' exclusively but there was other things going on at the FIT. And apparently in the morning, the Volks staff came in to see people eating food in the room and dolls were pushed out of the way so people could eat at the tables. (What the fuck if wrong with people??!! Who has the nerve to pull a stunt like moving things out of the way to eat??!!) There has been a lot of speculation on if it was someone at Dolpa or one of the catering or cleaning staff. Some people said they overheard the staff who were serving food comment on the value of these dolls. Personally I'm torn. If you were a random person, that did not know anything about the dolls, wouldn't you take all of them? Why leave dolls behind? I suppose you'd leave dolls behind if you only had so much room.

I hate to say it but I think who ever took them, knew what they were taking. These were literally 7 one offs. I find it hard to believe that it was a staff member who wouldn't know what they were taking.

And that's not all... It gets better.

So last night, after having a blast at Dolpa, I head back to my hotel to drop off some stuff and pick up someone who was not allowed into Dolpa. Why yes.... it was a Dollshe. My newest big boy, a Bermann (Hwrang Yooshin) that I bought from someone that happened to live in NY. So instead of trusting him to crazy Canada Post (as things seem really stupid lately) I picked him and all his lovely little items up in person. So, off I go with my little suit case, carting around Mr. I Don't Have a Name yet Bermann, Nox and Pico. I get to the Gerswhin without incident. Met JennyNemisis and thesaraghina, plus about 8 other people in the lobby. We hung out, things were good. Got to oogle the lovely one offs from the night. As the night went on, more people came with more lovely dolls. Everyone was really great, very respectful of other people's dolls and practically anal about handling their own dolls. I personally felt really good about having my Bermann out. I didn't feel worried (and for me that's saying something). Good times. And I think about 11 pm, I decided to head back to the hotel. Again, everything was cool, no problem getting back. So... are you waiting for it yet? Today I was talking to some people at Dolpa after we found out about the awful news and it seems that there was a girl who had been following the Volks crowd around and into the Gerswhin. No one really I think noticed much. It was just another big meet. People coming and going. And like all big gatherings, not everyone knows everyone. Apparently, one girl had 2 MSDs and she begun to pack them up. She put one away, had her back turned and some other girl grabbed him and put him in her purse and walked out of the Gerswhin! However the doorman saw her do it and ran after her. He managed to get the doll back, so the MSD was returned. I was completely floored when I heard this. Especially having my freakin' Bermann right out in the open! And after hearing this, I can't help to believe that the two incidents are related.

So .... now that the living daylights have been scared out of me (and my paranoia sets in even worse), I think the next time I go to a big meet, I am only bringing one or two dolls. I have always been paranoid about my dolls and now I know why .... Because even though I've met a lot of great people in this hobby, all it takes is one idiot to ruin everything. *sigh*

I know there is more that I want to say but I'm tired and hungry, so I'll stop here for now. What a way to end the weekend. *sigh* I think I'll go hug my dolls now...
